Cowboy was a dark chestnut with a small strip and snip. He was about 15.2 and weighed around 1,200 lbs.

Controversy surround the actual sire of Cowboy P-12. AQHA's Vol 1.No.3 Stud Book shows he was foaled in 1922. His sire is listed Buck Thomas, by Peter McCue. However, The "Errata" section of the Stud Book shows he was foaled 1927. His sire is listed there as Yellow Jacket by Little Rondo. There is a rumor that Cowboy was the own son of Peter McCue.

• Shue Fly. Racing ROM, World Champion Running Mare and World Champion Quarter Running Horse:1941,'42,'43,'44.
